BLACK SHEEP

Your privacy

Last updated 24 October 2026.

Black Sheep is made by Soracle Gaming. This is what the app does with your information, in plain words. If anything here isn't clear, email admin@playblacksheep.com.

Who we are

Black Sheep is made and published by Soracle Group Limited, trading as Soracle Gaming, which is responsible for your information ("we" in this notice). Soracle Group Limited is registered in England and Wales, company number 12157825, at 8 Gerard Avenue, Whitton, Middlesex, TW4 5NB, United Kingdom. You can reach us at admin@playblacksheep.com.

Playing as a guest

You don't need an account to play. As a guest, the app never asks for your name, your email address or your phone number.

What stays on your phone

Your progress, your scores, your streaks and the answers you type stay on your phone, in the app's own storage. Trivia answers you type never leave it. If you delete the app, they go with it.

Anonymous stats

When you finish a card, the app sends us the result, so we can see which cards are hard, which answers trip people up, and how the game is doing. The first time it needs to, your phone makes up a random id. That id is all we get with your results: never your name, your email, or anything that identifies your phone.

What's sent for each finished card: the card and its revision, your scores, whether you spotted the Black Sheep and named the link, how each question went (right first time, right on the second try, wrong, or skipped), the date, whether your phone is an iPhone or an Android, and the version of the app.

A link answer we didn't recognise is sent too, so an editor can decide whether it should count in future.

Results are sent only when you're online, and wait on your phone until then.

Turning it off

Settings has a switch. Turn it off and nothing more is sent, including any card you finish while it's off, even if you turn it back on later. Your own stats on this phone carry on as before.

Reports

If you report a problem with a card, the report goes to our editors with the card, anything you wrote, and your random id, so we can tell copies apart. Reports go even with the stats switched off, because you sent them to us on purpose.

Profiles and rankings

Making a profile is optional. It puts your Daily scores in the rankings, worldwide and for your nation. Guests can keep playing exactly as before.

To make one, you sign in with Apple, or with your email address: we email you a code, and you type it into the app. With Apple, you can choose to hide your email address, and Apple gives us a private one that forwards to you; we never ask Apple for your name. We use your email address only to sign you in. It's never shown to anyone, and we never send you marketing.

You choose a nickname and a nation. Those, with your Daily scores, are what other players see in the rankings. Please don't use your real name. Nicknames are checked for rude words and for ones that invite personal details, and our editors can take any nickname out of the rankings.

While you're signed in, the cards you finish are linked to your account, so your Dailies count. Black Sheep is for everyone, children included. If you're under 13, ask a parent or carer before you make a profile.

You can sign out at any time. You can also delete your account in the app: your email address, nickname and nation are deleted, you leave the rankings, and the cards you finished stay in our stats without any link to you.

The answer check

Some link answers are right but phrased in a way we hadn't thought of. To catch them, we may ask an AI service, Claude by Anthropic, whether such an answer fits the card. Only the card and the words of the answer are sent: never your random id, your account or anything else about you. Anthropic doesn't use what we send to train its models.

Why we're allowed to use it

The anonymous stats are statistics about how the game is used, which the law allows so we can improve it, as long as we tell you and you can turn them off. Your account is used to give you the rankings you asked for. Reports and the answer check are used to keep the cards fair and correct, which is in your interest and ours.

Who else handles it

Our server is run by Supabase, in the European Union (Ireland). Sign-in codes are sent by an email service working for us. If you sign in with Apple, Apple confirms who you are to us. Our editors' website is hosted by Vercel. The answer check uses Anthropic, in the United States, under data protection terms that keep your information protected to UK standards. None of them may use your information for anything else.

Only Soracle Gaming's editors can see what's sent to us, and only to run the game.

How long we keep it

Anonymous stats and reports are kept for as long as Black Sheep runs, because they're what keep the cards fair. Your account is kept until you delete it. Your progress on your phone is kept until you delete the app.

What we never do

We don't use your information for advertising. We don't sell it. We don't track you across other apps or websites.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it or delete it, object to how we use it, or ask us to stop using it for a while. For the stats, quote your random id (it's shown in Settings). For an account, write from the email address you signed in with. Email admin@playblacksheep.com, and we'll answer within a month.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Changes

When this notice changes, we'll update the date at the top, and tell you in the app if the change matters.
